About FloristWare: Our History

Development of the FloristWare POS system began in 2001. Mark Anderson (the developer of FloristWare and the founder of the company) was asked by his father (owner of a flower shop since 1991) to research existing POS packages designed for retail florists.

Mark had a background in software development for small business and, after looking long and hard at what was available, he saw that there was a real need - and an opportunity to create a special product that could truly help the typical retail flower shop.

Right from the start Mark was adamant that the system should not be designed in the usual way - in which a bunch of computer technicians work in isolation and to up with a system for a business they nothing about.

Instead Mark wanted the people who would actually use the product to guide it's development. During the early stages he worked closely with several local shops, listening to them as they told him what they needed, what restraints they would have in terms of budget, technical ability/inability of employees, etc.

As time went on more and more shops were brought in to the development process. Beginning in 2003 there were focus groups held with florists throughout North America. Local florists were encouraged preview the system and share their thoughts. This process continued for more than two years.

FloristWare was released in 2005. Since then florists - both current and potential users - have continued to guide development. They tell us what they like, what they don't and what can be made better. And we try and give them a nice surprise in the form of something they had not considered whenever we can!

It seems to have worked. FloristWare is now the fastest growing independent POS system for florists. There is a large group of loyal users with more coming onboard all the time.
