Internal Theft: Part 1 - The Suspicious Activity Report

This article discusses how you can use the Suspicious Activity Report to reduce fraud and internal theft.

The sad reality is that any business that deals in cash is vulnerable to internal theft.

The simplest forms of this type of theft are easy to detect - these will simply be less cash in the drawer than FloristWare tells you there should be. Assuming that it's not simple a case where payments were allocated incorrectly (credit card payments entered as cash payments for example) either cash is either not being collected, or being stolen by an employee or customer.

Sometimes employees take steps to cover there tracks and make the missing cash harder to find. There are several common ways of doing this, so FloristWare includes something called the 'Suspicious Activity Report' that helps you track suspicious activity - activity that could indicate that your employees are stealing from you.

Generating this report is easy. Simply enter FloristWare at the Manager level, select 'Simple Reports' and then 'Suspicious Activity Report'.

You can generate the report for whatever period you wish. When you do you will see that FloristWare gives you more information on each type of activity, as well as explaining why you should be worried and what you can do to protect yourself.

It is important to remember that the Suspicious Activity Report simply shows you the activity that FloristWare considers suspicious and explains the potential concern. Hopefully the mere ability to generate this report will have a deterrent effect. This report should not be considered proof of wrongdoing but hopefully it will let you spot troublesome trends and increase scrutiny if needed.
